ResAlliance is made of 16 partners from different Mediterranean countries. Among them, there are universities, research centres, business and much more. Drawing from their experiences and different expertise, we believe we can promote innovation in landscape resilience.

Who are the partners of ResAlliance?

European Forest Institute

The European Forest Institute (EFI) is a pan-European international organisation. It has 28 Member Countries, and 110-member organisations from 37 different countries. EFI provides forest-related knowledge around three interconnected and interdisciplinary themes: bioeconomy, resilience and governance. With a staff of over 100 experts in several offices across Europe, EFI is in a unique position to generate, connect and share knowledge at the interface between practice, science and policy.

Etifor | Valuing Nature

Etifor | Valuing Nature is a highly specialized environmental consulting firm providing innovative solutions to restore the balance between people and nature. As spin-off company of the University of Padua (Italy) Etifor’s team works with a strong scientific approach, using innovative social and technological techniques, while ensuring the good governance and implementation of our proposed solutions. Their work leads to improving the economic, environmental and social benefits of policies, projects and investments for private corporations, civil society organizations and national governments.

ELGO – DIMITRA

The Hellenic Agricultural Organization (ELGO – DIMITRA) is a non-profit organization, supervised by the Hellenic Ministry of Rural Development and Food (MRDF), and governed by a Management Board and a Scientific Committee. Its mission is the scientific and technical support of the Ministry, in planning, policy implementation, and formulation of positions on the policy issues considered in the Council and the other competent bodies of the European Union. Within ELGO-DIMITRA, its General Directorate of Agricultural Research is in charge of eleven (11) Research Institutes, including two Institutes focusing on forest research. The organization participates in the ResAlliance project through two of its Institutes, the “Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems” in Athens, and the “Institute of Olive Tree, Subtropical Crops and Viticulture” based in Chania, Crete.

European University Cyprus – CERIDES

With a history of more than 60 years, European University Cyprus (EUC) has grown into a leading academic and research institution in the region. Today, the EUC has gained global recognition for being a student-focused and innovative institution, with an emphasis on international orientation, sustainability, and industry/community engagement. Within this context CERIDES – Excellence in Innovation and Technology is a cross-disciplinary centre focusing on the development, use, and evaluation of methods to assess, manage, and communicate risk, and to analyse and implement decision-making mechanisms.

Pau Costa Foundation

Pau Costa Foundation (PCF) is a global non-profit organisation focusing on wildfire management and prevention, with a particular emphasis on fire ecology. The Foundation was born from the idea of a team of GRAF fire analysts who wanted to create a platform to bring together national and international knowledge on wildfires. Since 2011, PCF works to facilitate interaction between researchers, emergency services, public administration, private companies, and society, with the aim of disseminating knowledge and promoting joint projects worldwide.

D.R.E.AM. Italia

D.R.E.AM. Italia is a cooperative society which operates in the agricultural, forestry, wildlife and environmental sectors providing services at national and international level. In particular, the cooperative provides design and work supervision, management and conservation, monitoring and control, consultancy and training services to national and regional public bodies, local public administrations and bodies, associations and public and private enterprises. Finally, D.R.E.AM.’s objective is to contribute to sustainable rural development, the protection of the environment and fauna and the redevelopment of the territory.

Center for International Forestry Research

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) is a non-profit, scientific institution that conducts research on the most pressing challenges of forest and landscape management around the world. Using a global, multidisciplinary approach, CIFOR aim to improve human well-being, protect the environment, and increase equity. To do so, the Center conducts innovative research, develop partners’ capacity, and actively engage in dialogue with all stakeholders to inform policies and practices that affect forests and people.

Instituto Superior De Agronomia

The Instituto Superior De Agronomia (ISA) School of Agriculture, is the largest and most qualified school of graduate and post-graduate degrees in the Agricultural Sciences, in Portugal, and its know-how is recognized nationally and internationally. With over 100 years of experience, it has been adjusting its teaching to both the technological evolution and the reality of the country, focusing both on quality and modernization. ISA participates in ResAlliance through the Forest Research Centre (CEF), a research unit focusing on post-graduate education and outreach activities on issues dealing with forests, agro-forestry systems semi-natural areas, and forest-based industrial chains.

Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia

The Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) is a research centre affiliated with the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Catalan government), and it reports to the Ministry responsible for forest issues. CTFC’s mission is to conduct relevant science for sustainable forest management, biodiversity, and the circular bioeconomy. In particular, the Centre aims to become a reference in the Mediterranean and Southern European context, by establishing a hub of excellence in research and transfer of technology toward society. CTFC was granted a ‘Human Resources Excellence in Research’ award by the European Commission, recognizing the CTFC as a European research institution that fosters an attractive and motivating work environment.

Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology

The Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) is a research institute owned by the Government of Catalonia ascribed to the Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda. IRTA’s mission is to contribute to modernising, improving, boosting competitiveness, and fostering sustainable development in the sectors of agriculture, food, agroforestry, aquaculture, and fishing, as well as in all areas of activity directly or indirectly related to the supply of healthy, high-quality food. The general objectives of the Institute are to promote research and technological development in agri-food, to facilitate the transfer of scientific advances and to evaluate them, as well as promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors.

Jouzour Loubnan

Jouzour Loubnan (JL) is an NGO established since 2008, whose mission is to participate in the restoration of Lebanese woodland and promote sustainable reforestation. Today, Jouzour Loubnan is one of the most active associations in the reforestation of Lebanon. At the same time, Jouzour Loubnan focuses on engaging the Lebanese population in reforestation activities by raising awareness on the importance of forests and biodiversity, involving the local communities in the protection and management of our planted forests and encouraging Lebanese residents and the diaspora to support reforestation.

Institut National de la Recherche en Génie Rural, Eaux et Forêts

The National Institute of Rural engineering research, Water and Forests (“Institut National de la Recherche en Génie Rural, Eaux et Forêts” – INRGREF) deals with research related to rural engineering, water and forests. In particular, their research focuses on themes such as the control, the economy and the development of water use for crop irrigation, the problems of soil salinity, waste water, agricultural machinery, the CES, reforestation, the improvement of woody and pastoral production, the conservation of natural resources, the exploitation and management of forests and rangelands and new and renewable energies.

Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute Of Chania (CIHEAM – MAICH) is the 4th constituent institute of CIHEAM, the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, an Intergovernmental Organisation which was founded at the joint initiative of the OECD and the Council of Europe in 1962 under an agreement signed by the governments of seven southern European countries: France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and Yugoslavia. The Institute’s mission is to provide supplementary education and develop a spirit of international cooperation among agricultural personnel in Mediterranean countries.

Agenzia forestale regionale per lo sviluppo del territorio e l’ambiente della Sardegna (FoReSTAS)

The Agenzia forestale regionale per lo sviluppo del territorio e l’ambiente della Sardegna (“Regional Forest Agency for Land Development and the Environment of Sardinia” – FoReSTAS) is an institutional agency, whose aim is to achieve the improvement, modernisation, and greater efficiency of forestry policies. In particular, FoReSTAS addresses the need for innovation and valorisation, including economic and social valorisation, of the natural heritage and the goods produced in Sardinia.

European Federation of Agroforestry

The European Federation of Agroforestry (EURAF) is an international federation, which today counts more than 800 members from 23 different European countries. EURAF promotes the use of trees on farms as well as any kind of silvopastoralism throughout the different environmental regions of Europe. How? By communicating the importance of agroforestry with different means, such as conferences, knowledge dissemination, lobbying activities, and much more.

International Union for Conservation of Nature 

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is an international organization working in the field of nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. It is involved in data gathering and analysis, research, field projects, advocacy, and education. Over the last few decades, IUCN has widened its focus beyond conservation ecology and now includes issues related to sustainable development. It mission is to «influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable».
