Launch of ResAlliance’s LandNet at AGROSYM 2023

In May 2023, the ResAlliance project made a significant appearance at the 8th International Wildland Fire Conference in Porto, Portugal, garnering considerable attention. During this event, the project unveiled the “LandNet,” an open Mediterranean thematic network focused on landscape resilience for forestry and agriculture, which will be established within the project framework. The LandNet was presented for the first time to an audience comprising stakeholders in forestry and forest fire management.

Now, from October 5th to 8th, 2023, the project is set to take the stage at the XIV International Agriculture Symposium, “AGROSYM 2023” (http://agrosym.ues.rs.ba/), to be held at the Jahorina ski center, just 25 kilometers from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This event promises a much broader audience, as AGROSYM serves as a significant platform for international scientific discourse on agriculture, food, rural development, environment, and forestry.

Dr. Gavriil Xanthopoulos, Research Director at the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DIMITRA, will represent the project consortium and deliver a presentation titled “Improving Landscape Resilience in the Mediterranean Against Climate Change Threats: The ‘ResAlliance’ Project.” His presentation will delve into topics such as climate change, landscape fires, and drought in the Mediterranean region. He will also emphasize the importance of landscape resilience and the necessity of its development for a sustainable and resilient future. Dr. Xanthopoulos will elucidate the project’s primary objective, which is to enhance the flow of information and knowledge while increasing the capacity of foresters and farmers regarding landscape resilience.

Additionally, the LandNet will have its second launch, this time to a vastly diverse audience. Stakeholders will be encouraged to join LandNet, as well as the LandLabs to be established in five Mediterranean regions highly susceptible to climate change hazards: Sardinia (Italy), Catalonia (Spain), Peloponnese (Greece), Cyprus, and Regiao Norte (Portugal). The LandLabs will aim to gather experiences, visions, and expectations from participants, ultimately striving to develop solutions with the potential to address the current challenges posed by climate change.

The description of ResAlliance and the networking activities presented at the Symposium will also be available in a paper that has been submitted to the organizers. Following a review process, the paper has been accepted and will be featured in the proceedings set to be published in less than two months. Stay tuned for further updates!
